Described by leading make up artists as Marmite, with contouring you either love it or hate but whatever your opinion this make-up trick is no longer a trend but a true asset in the make up industry. If we take a step back and look at the beauty vernacular the term contouring was non existence, however a quick search on
Google and you will find millions of results (18,100,000 results to be exact) From '
How to' tutorials with beauty junkies who offer the best tips, and with the rise of
instagram and in turn 'selfies' you can't ignore that contouring is not so much a trend as an industry in itself. However speaking to our
IMM models we discuss what what is the best way to make use of the wealth of new products on the market to subtly complement rather than to transform your face into a striped, unblended disaster.
If we take a similar approach to the make up spotted during
fashion week, then the 'less' approach is a definite. When many think of contouring we simply think of hollowed out cheeks, slimmed noses and a face filled of different coloured spots to make the perfect Kylie Jenner facasde, yet the best way to sculpt your face is to add light. At SS16 shows such as
Chloe, Opening Ceremony and fresh designers such as
1205 a touch of highlight was seen on the high parts of the cheek bones, the eyebrow arches and other parts of the face where light may naturally hit creating perfect definition - in the beauty blogger world this is referred to as strobing and our
IMM models can't get enough. One product they raved about was
Nars Laguna Liquid Bronzer; It is spring's new bronzer and provides the perfect opportunity to create sunkissed skin that's sculpted at the same time -
HOW TO, apply this product. Try dotting a cream formula across the bridge of the nose, around the edges of the face and into the cheekbones for a look that's natural but structured. Use your fingers or a beauty blender sponge to prevent harsh lines, or choose a soft brush to disperse product evenly. Contouring in 2016 = bronzing, but with an awareness of the planes of the face, and how best to enhance your features. Teaming this product with
Hourglass Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder, available at
Liberty you will be nailing the
Lily Aldridge Met Gala look in no time.
Now with contouring being such a big hit, one product that has been shelved are make up removal wipes. When wipes arrived we seriously couldn't believe our luck! They seemed the ultimate time-saver in a world of sticky balms, muslins and three-step cleanse and tone routines. However soon our dreams were crushed and unfortunately there is no real substitute for washing your face. On top of that, modern cleansers are so sophisticated, efficient and tailored to specific needs that wipes feel almost redundant in the savvy beauty-lover's skincare kit. But wipes are like many common vices...
A.)No, we shouldn't use them every day and no, they might not remove every last trace of make-up, but there's a time and a place where nothing else will do.
B.) Best for - festivals, late nights, gym sessions and all the other activities that make up a working women's schedule, especially if you are a model - we are talking castings, shoots, travelling etc.
so
IMM are here to advise you on the best wipes, the golden rule is to choose high-quality wipes with gentler ingredients, and to wash your face afterwards where possible, even if just with water. Top Tip - don't use them all the time but sometimes especially in the model world convenience wins!
Looking for a bargain...Free of the nasties that make most face wipes have that horrid burning sensation,
Neal's Yard Remedies's wipes are made of biodegradable organic cotton and feature aloe vera to soothe. Best of all they stay moist in the resealable package, so no need to scrub or drag the skin to get results. They are available for £5.50 for a pack of 25, however if you have sensitive skin we suggest investing a little into,
This Works In Transit No Traces Pads; Described by Vogue beauty as 'the upmarket take on classic wipes.' This Works's rosewater-infused pads are gentle and designed especially for travel. Throw them in your bag for pre- and post-shoot cleansing. Available for £17.50 -
