I’ve been blogging (
here) and modelling for around 4 years now, how crazy is that?!
I began blogging when I was 16. It was something I’d started as a hobby when I dropped out of college. I’d always been super creative regardless, but starting my blog truly let my creativity flow.
My blog became the place for me to share all the things that I loved. This began with beauty tips and make up reviews, moved onto sharing daily outfit posts and style inspirations, and has slowly progressed into the discussion of mental health, something I’m extremely passionate about now.
Sharing my personal style, along with my personal experiences with my own mental health, has been one really interesting journey. Seeing how things have changed over the past 4 years for me, as well as the fashion industry, is amazing to see!
I’ve had my ups and downs with various mental illnesses, from eating disorders to anxiety, and being able to share that experience online, with a world of people who have been through similar things, has been super rewarding and helpful to me also.
Without my blog, and discussing the things that I do, I guess I would have felt a lot more alone. I think writing was the perfect outlet to not only share with my readers, but also those closest to me, about exactly what was going on in my head.
Sharing my experiences is definitely one of the best things I did. So, if you’re wondering whether you should talk to someone yourself, definitely do.
Modelling has also been a huge contributor when it comes to bettering my mental health. It has given me soooo much confidence.
I began modelling in 2016, completely clueless and scared of the modelling world. But, now, I feel like I have my own grasp on it. I feel like I’ve slowly but surely learnt the ways of the industry, as well as grown into the kind of model I’ve always tried to be, so I thought I’d share with you just a few of those things I’ve learnt, just in case any of you out there are just starting yourselfs and feeling a similar way:
Be True To Yourself
Being yourself is your biggest selling point. No one else is YOU.
I always used to want to be like ‘everyone else’ when I first began modelling, but slowly grew to find that it’s so much nicer, and easier, to just stay true to who you are and completely sell yourself as that. If you’re a little goofy and giggly like me, embrace it!
Be Confident
There’s so much power in being confident in what you’re doing when modelling. Remember to stand tall, make eye contact and show people exactly who you are and what you’re made of!
Chat!
Always make conversation with the people around you - don’t shy away. It’s always great to build relationships with photographers and models on set. Just have fun!
Have Respect For The Team
Having respect for the people you’re working with is super vital. Show up on time, be polite, arrive prepared - all this shows your professionalism and could lead to lots more opportunities!
