Sarah T featuring in the new Dyson Airwrap Styler T.V Commercial
So here we are again - letting everyone know what team IMM have been getting up to and this time we have the beautiful Sarah T showing us how to style your hair with the new Dyson Airwrap which launched this month.
Remember when Dyson launched the Supersonic hairdryer in 2016? Known for its minimal sound, speed, and all-round sleekness, it caused a total stampede when it went on sale to the general public. Yes, it was an expensive purchase, but it didn’t halter the success. Well, now, it looks like there’s going to be a whole new furore.
But finally, after months of keeping their latest invention a secret, IMM can finally reveal Dyson's new styling tool and it’s another game changing innovation.
First things first. What does it do? In a nutshell, it smooths, waves and curls hair using air rather than heat. It’s partly able to do this because of the different attachments (six in total) that you can interchange but more importantly, it’s the breakthrough technology that’s making us geek out. Like the Supersonic, The AirWrap uses the same tiny but powerful motor as the hair dryer, the digital V9 which took 15 engineers to design and is now Dyson’s smallest, lightest and most advanced motor on its books.
The motor creates the Coanda effect (a jet flow that attaches itself to a surface), which makes the hot air attract the hair to the barrel, wrapping it around to create the style you want and also a bit of jaw-dropping hair magic. The idea is that the air flow mimics a hair stylist’s blow-drying technique, directing air down the hair and creating the style, relying on air rather than extreme heat to set the style.
The first couple of times you try it, it’ll feel odd. But there’s no finger or forehead burning and nothing to catch or trap your hair on but you will have to re-educate yourself in the way you style. It’s best if you are in front of a mirror when you learn how to use it and then you soon realise that you actually don’t need to do much (as there’s no physical wrapping of hair sections) except hold your hair at the right angle and finish each section with a shot of cold which is integrated into the on button.
You also need to have slightly damp hair to style. Not dripping wet - think 85 per cent dry. But there is a rough dryer attachment included which is actually, in our eyes, a whole new hair tool in its own right. It basically gives you an air-dried style that you’ll love, so we’re calling this out as the unexpected hero.

But back to business. The way that the styler works also means that, with different attachments, it works for different hair types - you just need to select the styling set that suits your hair. The other main advantage of the AirWrap is the heat temperature control (measured 40 times a second) which prevents any extreme heat damage. Impressed? You will be. You’ll need to get over the main hurdle - retraining the way you style your hair - but with practice, you’ll cut down the time your hair takes since you can style with damp hair (you can do it on dry hair but it won’t last as long). You’re drying and styling at the same time.
There are three SKUs; Volume & Shape for finer hair, Smooth & Control for thicker and textured hair and the Complete set which includes all brushes and barrels. All of the sets include the “Pre-Styling Dryer” or the rough dryer as we have renamed it! Like the hair dryer it’s an investment purchase but with all the attachments that help you create smooth, blown-out styles and waves and curls, so it’s cutting down on the amount of tools you need. In summary, it’s a wrap-star.
