I'm not sure how anyone could survive without at least one denim item in their wardrobes. From jeans to jackets, denim is an easy go-to for any outfit during any season and there are unlimited ways to style it. During London Fashion Week back in February you couldn't turn a corner without seeing bloggers and fashionistas repping their denim street style looks and boy was I in love with it.
When I'm sorting out looks for my blog there always seems to be a new piece of denim cropping up and I'm ashamed/proud to say I'm the owner of at least 25 pairs of jeans (I know, a real obsession). I'm going to show you how I model my favourite denim looks and what I wear with them to create the perfect casual street style outfits
.
THE DENIM JACKET.
Don't have a denim jacket yet? You definitely need to get one, and hopefully I'll persuade you after this. You can style them in the Spring and Summer over shorts and dresses as the perfect 'light layer' or you can wear them with jumpers and jeans in the Winter.
With festival season coming up you can't go wrong with adding a denim jacket to an aztec dress with wellies and a floral headband. At the moment I'm still styling mine with jeans and boots until the weather warms up, but as soon as the heatwave comes (or I jet off on an exotic holiday) I'll throw on my jacket with mini dresses and sandals.
IMM TEAM - Robyn knows it, denim is so in. One idea with a battered denim jacket to copy styles by designers such as
Epperson - pins and vintage badges are a must to make a vintage style unique piece, as seen on models everywhere during the
Fashion week season 2. RIPPED JEANS.
Ripped jeans create the perfect edge to a normal everyday outfit. I can't say I'm a huge fan of those jeans with so many holes in that they're barely even jeans anymore, but subtle rips at the knee and on the thigh add such a grungy feel to an outfit and I'm obsessed with it.
Take your punk style further with leather jackets and boots or step into Summer with cute crop tops and sandals.
3. DOUBLE DENIM
Terrified of double denim? You're not alone, but the key to nailing double denim is to get the clashing right. As long as you've got opposite shades of denim you can't go wrong.
One of my favourite ways to wear double denim is with dark blue/black jeans and light blue denim shirts.
IMM TEAM, we couldn't agree more with Robyn, its all about the different shades however if you want to draw inspiration from the
GUESS campaigns or Brittany Spears x JT circa 02 then we suggest faded and acid-washed style denims work best - Team battered
Levis, with an oversized baby blue shirt you will be channelling the
Calvin Klein off model duty in no time.
4. THE DENIM PINAFORE DRESS
I'm a huge (and I mean huge) fan of denim pinafore dresses. Although they can occasionally make you look like a 5 year old, I love layering them up for girly outfits with jumpers and simple t-shirts. I wore them throughout the Winter with boots and tights and I'm so excited to wear them this season with bare legs and sandals (and maybe a denim jacket over the top, obviously).
IMM Team: A staple to have on your clothes rail, however if you aren't into the girly look an item of clothing that is best for summer has to be a denim boiler suit - a sell out item in
COS and
Carhartt WIP a denim boiler suit with a bomber jacked from the
Palace x DSM collection is a killa look for the season
