MARCELL FOR #QASIMI
Spring/Summer 20
Over the weekend we saw new faces model Marcel walk in LFW Qasimi Spring / Summer 2020 collection. Against a backdrop of ongoing political tension in the Middle East, Qasimi presented a collection built around the idea of an urban nomad and a Utopian future imbued with a sense of lightness and positivity.
Khalid Qasimi is a London-based fashion designer. Born in Sharjah, the United Arab Emirates city on the Arabian Gulf, Qasimi moved to the United Kingdom at nine. He went to University College London, completing a degree in Architectural Studies at the Association School of Architecture (AA). It was here, learning the craft of designing buildings, that he found his true passion: designing clothes. He moved to Central Saint Martins, winning a place on the college’s prestigious BA Womenswear course, and launching his label Qasimi Homme several years later in 2008.
Qasimi takes inspiration from his background in all of his shows, often paying homage to his childhood in the middle-east and his degree in architecture. He states Architecture informs the approach to design – thinking of the body as a landscape, and garments in terms of form and materials – and the philosophy behind the label: that clothes are to be lived in.
This seasons sun bleached fabrics and neutral colour scheme hint at the designer’s childhood in the United Arab Emirates.
Qasimi is now stocked in the most prestigious retailers worldwide, from Club 21 in Singapore to Harrods in London.
Go Marcell!
